Hobby Update – April 2025

A Quick Update – Racers, Wizards, and Big Mechs!

Over the past couple of weeks, I haven’t managed to get much done—mainly due to a family wedding and illness issues.

That said, I have managed to finish four racers for my new set of rules. These rules feature futuristic hover racers tearing around tracks, either in single races or across a full campaign season, supported by sponsors.

The racers are based on Hot Wheels cars with some simple upgrades—added thrusters and a few other bits—to give them the right sci-fi look. The only thing left to do now is add a tuft or two to the bases to finish them off.

I’ve also been working on the race season sheets for the game. These will be available both as simple printouts and as two Excel spreadsheets to download. One sheet will be for individual players to track their racer’s progress over the campaign. The other will be a season standings chart to track how all racers are doing throughout the campaign.

In addition to that, I’ve been doing more work on expanding the wizard skirmish game Crystalline Wars: Arcane Battlegrounds. One of the main things I’m focusing on is adding “foot troops” as supporting units for the wizards.

Normally, this would be pretty straightforward—but because Crystalline Wars doesn’t use dice, it’s proving to be more of a challenge!

I’ve printed out some sabot bases for the troops, designed to hold five, four, or three miniatures. The five-slot bases will be for basic troops with hand weapons like swords, axes, or even spears. The four-slot ones are for heavy weapon troops, and the three-slot bases will be used for missile troops like archers.

I’ve had to rebase a lot of the models, as they were originally on square bases from an older rules system. There’s still a ton of work to do on this front, including more sabots to print and plenty of troops that need repainting—they’re a bit rough around the edges and could use a fresh coat to bring them up to standard.

I also still need to paint my wizards. I’m planning to do them in two basic colour schemes so they can represent different forces in the game.

Elsewhere, I’ve made progress on the Stars & Lasers: Star Wars Armada add-on. I’ve added a couple more ships to the roster, giving players more options for both sides. This add-on is nearly finished and should be available very soon.

I’ve also been working on the Hostile Actions supplement. This one is basically done—the new rules for all the additional units and weapons are in place. The only thing left is the images for the new unit cards. These will include the new vehicles, troops, and of course, the Big Mechs!

I’ve moved my old Titans to the painting table to get them updated so they match my 15mm UEF troops. I’ve also got enough to paint up a few in GRF colours too, so I’ll be able to run some big battles between the two forces.

Also there has been an update for the Little Wargaming Worlds App.

Here’s a list of the changes made in this version (version 1.3.0):

  • Added Ironclads of Ferrosia army builder.
  • Added “Bio-Drone”, “Bio-Sprayer”, and “Bio-Super Leviathan” ships to Stars & Lasers.
  • Hive Empire” ships to Stars & Lasers.
  • Added “Kumarian Empire” ships to Stars & Lasers.
  • Added “Lorica Colony” ships to Stars & Lasers.
  • Added latest supplements available for Stars & Lasers to the home screen.
  • “Leviathan” and “Super Leviathan” ships now create “Frigates” when a new game is started in Stars & Lasers.

So, quite a bit in the pipeline! I’ve got a lot that needs doing this month, and I’m hoping I can finally make a proper dent in the painting table backlog—and maybe even finish off at least one project!
