Four battles in a day… No.2

Continuing on with my “four different games in a day” here is game number two.

This was going to be a simple game of Blood Sweat & Iron, I put three Confederate wooden ships up against a Union ironclad.

Could the three ships take on this heavily armoured ship, not only did it have much thicker armour it also out gunned them so it wasn’t going to be easy that’s for sure.

Confederate force = 820 pts

CSS Alabama

CSS Planter

CSS General Sumter

Union = 610 pts

USS Miantonomoh

Turn one.

The General Sumter immediately after seeing the Union ironclad moves to protect the Alabama, firing off a shot that flies wide of the target.

The USS Maintonomoh moves slowly towards the Alabama already making the decision to make the big ship its main target as it was the biggest threat, scoring some long-range hits on the big ship and also ripping some big holes in the General Sumter as it passed.

Oh this Ironclad is going to cause these wooden ships real problems.

The Alabama turns slightly bringing all its side guns to bear on the Union ship and manages to get some shots through the heavy armour.

Turn Two.

The General Sumter swings around the Ironclad attacking it from the other side, but fails to get through the big ships armour.

The Alabama comes around close to the Union ship and fires off a full broadside but all the shots bounce harmlessly off the ironclads thick armour.

The CCS Planter comes in at full speed to hit the Union ship again causing more damage! Can these Confederate ships actually destroy the beast of an ironclad?

The Maintonomoh slowly moves around to attack the Alabama again doing more damage on the big ship, but its shots fall short of the CSS Planter, the crew of that ship breathe a sigh of relief as they see the water splashes from the shots.

Turn Three.

The ironclad moves around the Alabama blasting more holes in the big ship.

The Planter swings around hard to attack the ironclad again, but again the armour is proving too strong.

The Alabama moves around and again brings all its side cannons to bear and a cheer goes up on board as they see fire break out onboard the ironclad.

Turn Four.

With the fires still burning on board the Maintonomoh moves away from the Alabama and aims all its fury at the small General Sumter sinking the small ship.

The Alabama and the Planter both swing around the ironclad to attack it again, the Alabama fires but all of the shots miss!

The gun crew on board the CSS Planter swing their gun around until they have lined up with the Union ironclad and fire… Boom! Something explodes on board the Union ship, the crew are shaken and are starting to get a little worried now.

Turn Five.

The crew of the Ironclad finally manage to get the fires under control and put them out.

The crew on board the Planter are going in for the kill, they really want to destroy the Union ship after seeing the General Sumter sink, but their luck doesn’t hold up as the shot sails across the prow of the ironclad.

The Union ship steams forward firing at the Planter, the small valiant ship was blown apart by the heavy guns of the ironclad.

The Alabama moves in again and gives a another full broadside of cannon fire at the ironclad and is pleased to see another fire start on the Union ship.

Turn Six.

With the fires still burning on board, the crew of the USS Maintonomoh strike the flag and start to take to the water.

The battle is over.

Well that was really good fun, it could have gone either way but with just one or two lucky shots the Confederates with their wooden ships beat the heavily armoured ironclad… just.

Its always fun putting an ironclad up against a few wooden ships and this game was no exception, great on the edge of the seat fun.
