As the title says “time does fly…” yep it has been a while since I posted anything, and my only excuse is that I have been either working ( real life stuff ) or writing rules ( the best stuff )
The only games I have had lately are some solo play tests of the new alien spaceship rules ( I will get a few more in over the next couple of days )
These are working really well now I only need to get the points costs right and I will be able to release them here on the site… for free!
The new aliens are really nasty and are great fun to play, they have some new weapons and new game mechanics that are just for them, as always though there is nothing to complicated, everything is still aimed at simple.
There are two things that make these aliens hard to beat and they are –
They have a new weapon which can knock out a ships systems until repaired, this has been really fun trying to get all the rules working for this weapon, I was given the main ideas behind this weapon ( thanks Vic ) and I have worked it into Stars & Lasers rules systems and so far it is working really well, this can really turn the battle to the aliens advantage.
It can affect things like Shields, weapons, missiles and PDS… oh and engines.
The other thing which I think is really useful and if used correctly will make these aliens really hard to beat in a battle… they can repair themselves during a battle!!
This has taken a while to get right as well, but I believe it is finally just about spot on, not every ship in the force can repair and only one ship in the force can be repaired ( the biggest! ) but it is enough to make these aliens very hard to fight.
It is not easy to get right while playing the game, timing and positioning is crucial, and it has its down sides but if you can get this right it is great.
Also, another thing I have been working on is a collection of new ship datasheets, these will be different configurations of existing ships in Stars & Lasers, things like two or three types of Corvettes, and the same with Frigates etc. etc.
These will allow you to have more choice on the ships that you put onto the table, it will also mean that you will be able to pick ships that fit in better with the way in which you want to fight…
The things that will be different will be weapons layout, shields, PDS and even speed, obviously this will not cover every possible configuration that can be thought of, but I will try and do as many as I can, I have been given a good few examples / ideas already, but if there is something that you would like to see changed with the configurations of the existing ships then please drop me an email firstname.lastname@example.org I will look at any ideas you have, and of course if you tell me that you don’t mind I may even use them for the datasheets.
