Well that went better than last time…
I had a game of Stars & Lasers with a friend at the club on Monday, and it went much better than the last one, I used the same scenario from the rules “You sank my battleship!” and used just one or two less ships as this was his first game using my rules.
We set up as normal with a few scattered asteroids and a space station just as scenery / obstacles and proceeded to work our way through the rules.
Things started off well with a few hits scored on both sides, and just a couple of loses by the second turn, but things were just starting to hot up as the ships closed in for some really close fighting.
Hull points were being marked off on both fleets, but both battleships were relatively unscathed, one or two missiles were finally finding their mark but only managing to do light damage ( I think we only had about three or four critical hits all night ) but then I got in a lucky hit and took out his battleships comm’s this meant that he had to roll to reinstate them at the beginning of the next turn, but he failed so the ship just moved forward while the engineers fought to get the ship back under control, this allowed me to get in a few more hits, at the beginning of his next turn he failed to get control again, this gave the chance to swing my battleship for a close range broadside that sent his battleship spinning off as a dead hulk.
And that was it, I actually won a game!!!
It was a real fun game and it was a really close game, I think my opponent had fun even though he lost.
While playing, I got talking to a few people who came over to watch the game and one of them suggested that I should do some rules for boarding actions, well I hadn’t thought about that at all while writing the rules but now I think that it might be interesting to put something in for them.
I already have some small ships I could use as troop transports, I just now need to think of some rules……
