New Stars & Lasers Supplement Coming Soon

Over the past few months I’ve been asked several times about adding larger, longer-ranged weapons to Stars & Lasers. With that in mind, I’ve been working on a new supplement that introduces a selection of powerful Capital Weapons, each capable of engaging targets at ranges of up to 30″.

These weapons are designed to give larger warships even more battlefield presence and provide players with new tactical options when building their fleets.

The supplement will also include a collection of Prototype and Experimental Weapons. Much like the vessels featured in my “Ships That Never Were” supplement, these are the “Weapons That Never Were”—advanced systems, abandoned projects, and dangerous experimental technologies that never reached full production but might have changed the course of the war had they entered service.

In addition, after discussions with players and members of the community, I’m also introducing a new Upgrades and Refits system for ships. This is another feature that has been requested on several occasions and should add an extra layer of fleet customisation.

These upgrades and refits will be presented on cards that can be placed alongside a ship’s data card, making them quick and easy to reference during play.

Upgrades represent straightforward improvements to a vessel’s systems, enhancing its existing capabilities without major alterations. Examples include additional shielding, improved Point Defence Fire, enhanced sensors, and other battlefield improvements.

Refits, on the other hand, involve significant modifications that improve certain aspects of a ship while often reducing effectiveness elsewhere. Commanders will need to decide whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks when preparing their fleets for battle.

Together, these new weapons, upgrades, and refits will offer a much greater degree of fleet customisation. No longer will fleets be limited to standard designs, and the chances of encountering two identical fleets on the tabletop will become increasingly rare.

The supplement is progressing well and I’m looking forward to sharing more details, previews, and examples over the coming weeks.
