Well, the second force for Hostile Actions is finally finished, it took me about four hours longer than the UEF force I painted last week.
This is mainly because of the colour I picked to do them in… ok let me explain, well I wanted to make sure that these troops were very different from the UEF force, these are meant to be a colony worlds defence force and the colony has removed itself from the control of the UEF.
These will hopefully be joining the UEF in battle in a few games of Hostile Actions over the next few weeks.
Anyway, that’s the very short history behind the troops now let’s get back to that colour I picked.
Have you ever painted something and realised that it may have been a big mistake, well that’s what I thought after the base coat had dried, I did think something was wrong as I was painting but I just thought it would dry ok… oh dear, I was so wrong, I needed dark glasses to look at it, it gave me a headache it was so bright.
The paint I used was Talassar Blue one of GW’s Contrast paints, it looked dark in the pot, oh I swear it was actually glowing!!
I actually sat and thought about stripping it all off, but there are a lot of models so I decided that was not the way to go.
So out came the washes, first I hit everything with a heavy coat of Drakenhof Nightshade and well that helped a little.
Next up was a good helping of Agrax Earthshade, two heavy coats to be precise, and well that really helped, I finally finished off with a coat of Desert Dust Wash from Vallejo.
And well I think they do not look too bad now, certainly tabletop ready.
Well, what do we have in the GRF army –
1 x Commander
5 x Units of Light Infantry
6 x Units of Militia
2 x Units of Scouts
1 x Unit of Power Armoured Infantry
1 x Sniper Team
3 x Robots
6 x Droids
Supported by –
2 x Heavy Tanks
3 x Medium Tanks
2 x Light Tanks (one can be swapped into an AA gun)
2 x Armoured Cars
2 x Scout Cars
2 x APC’s
1 x VTOL (still need to finish the base for this)
So not a bad force for the GRF, they will give me plenty of options for my games.
The militia are actually Penal Colony troops but I have painted them with blue-grey fatigues (overalls) and they will work fine as militia in my games.
You may notice from an earlier post about this force that I didn’t use all the vehicles I had, this is because they were really weird and I wasn’t sure what they were or could be used for.
I will do some searching on the internet to see if I can work out what they are and then look at if I can use them or not, if I do the GRF may get some more vehicles to take on the UEF in battle.
