For the third game I fancied a bit of spaceship action.
So next up was a little game of Stars & Lasers, I fancied having a couple of big ships battle it out, so I used two Dreadnoughts that for some reason were travelling alone without any escorts and met in the vastness of space… well that’s the story and I am sticking to it.
Which one of these beasts would survive the encounter?
The UEF Pegasus and the GRF Lively both with Ablative Armour and a turreted Railgun.
Turn one.
The UEF Pegasus moves slowly forward launching its fighters and bombers and also launched a couple of missiles to keep the enemy dreadnought moving.
The GRF Lively swings around out of the way of those incoming missiles and fire of a full broadside at the Pegasus stripping away all of its ablative armour and a couple of its shields, then it launches its own fighters and bombers.
Turn two.
The GRF Lively’s fighters make short work of one of the missiles and just leaves the other one to go off into space.
The UEF fighters and bombers move cautiously away from the GRF ship.
The Pegasus closes the gap between the two big ships and strips away all of the Lively’s shields and some of its ablative armour.
The Lively returns the favour by stripping the rest of the Pegasus’s shields and damaging its hull.
The Pegasus targets the GRF fighters and destroys a pair of them.
Turn Three.
The Pegasus’s engineers can not get it shields reinstated, so things could go badly for the UEF ship now.
The GRF bombers scream into range to attack the Pegasus but its PDS handles them easily destroying them all.
Again the UEF fighters and bombers keep their distance, but the two remaining GRF fighters take a chance and attack the skulking bombers but they only manage to destroy one of them.
The Pegasus goes up to full speed and gets up into the Lively’s rear arc, real close to its engines and hits the GRF ship with everything it can.
It takes down all of the big ships shields and manages to get two missiles past its PDS doing huge damage to the GRF dreadnought.
The Lively shrugs off the damage, its big it can take it, and it powers away and comes around for another full broadside on the defenceless Pegasus.
And rips huge holes in the big ship, taking out the shield generators and badly damaging the computers controlling the weapons systems, but then fire cause huge internal explosions tearing the big ship apart…
Wow ok that didn’t go as I had expected, the GRF Lively got three critical hits with that last lot of shooting, and the last critical blew the ship apart.
I am not sure I played the UEF fighters and bombers correctly, but I just didn’t see them surviving the PDS from the big ship, just like the GRF bombers they would have been destroyed, I was waiting for the right moment to attack with them but that moment never came.
But it was still a fun game.
