Chance Meeting, Two Fleets Fight It Out.

Just played a basic meeting battle with two fairly standard forces, this is a playtest of my new rules.

This is a fairly even fight although I guess with the submersibles the (red) Zephyros Coalition force has the slight upper hand, but the (grey) Valtoris Imperium ships can hit hard and take a lot of damage….

The Valtoris Fleet –

1 x Battleship

1 x Cruiser

1 x Destroyer

3 x Frigates

The Zephyros fleet –

1 x Battleship

2 x Cruisers

2 x Frigates

2 x Submersibles

The set-up was done as a basic meeting engagement, so just a straight up fight for this game.

The Zephyros fleet split into two groups with the main part at the top and the two submersibles attacking from below.

The Valtoris fleet came in from the lower corner with the big battleship in the middle of the group being supported by the other ships.

So on the first turn both fleets started to move into position to best attack the other, both battleships fired off their long range weapons but both ships missed their targets.

The two submersibles getting in some early torpedo attacks.

Turn two saw the problem with staying on the surface in a submersible!! This one got hit by a frigate and has now got fires onboard.

But the other one was more sensible and went below the surface and attacked a destroyer… You really do need to watch out for the torpedoes! ouch 😮

Lots of fires burning on the ships, its a good job these ships can take a lot of punishment.

The Valtoris battleship has just taken two torpedoes in its port side, hey its tough it can take it 🤞

The Zephyros submersibles were still causing trouble for the Valtoris ships, the torpedoes were starting to really hurt.

The Zephyros ships were burning well again, three had fires at the end of the turn, but the Valtoris battleship was suffering with fire damage as well so it was still fairly even with the damage going around in this battle.

At this point the Valtoris fleet had lost their cruiser and their destroyer, and the Zephyros fleet had lost one of their cruisers, so if the Valtoris lost any more ships they would be taking force morale checks.

Both fleets spend another turn pounding each other, when the Valtoris battleship comes in for one final run at the enemy battleship, trying to get that killing blow…. and the big ship shrugs off most of the damage.

Well by the end of the turn the Valtoris had lost another frigate and then failed their fleet morale and decided to steam away as quickly as they could, the battle was over for them.

Huge amounts of damage was taken by both sides in this battle, it really could have gone either way.

It was a really close battle, with both battleships absorbing huge amounts of damage, the submersibles were annoying as once the destroyer was out of the fight the Valrotis fleet had no real defence against the subs and their torpedoes.

A great scrap and I was very pleased with how everything worked in the game.
