Another Monday night at the club and a game of Stars & Lasers with a friend, we had about 1500 points of ships on the table and just went for a straight “meeting engagement” so we set up a few asteroids and a couple of small moons to give us something to fight around.
We went for a few big ships for this game as it is good to get some of the big sloggers out once in a while, we had very similar forces on the table, I had a 1 x Battleship, 1 x Battlecruiser, 2 x Light Cruisers, 2 x Frigates and a few Fighter and Fighter Bomber stands.
He had a similar selection of ships so once they were deployed we started to draw the dice…
Turns one and two saw some early heavy damage on a few of his ships, and his Light Cruiser destroyed ( it got to close to my Battleship and Battlecruiser, and was the only ship in the game to receive a critical hit!! ) he did managed to get a bit of damage on my Battleship though.
Turn three and four saw the game swing back the other way as I lost both Frigates and one Light Cruiser and took huge amounts of damage on my Battlecruiser ( I had one point of hull left!!! ) it’s shields had not been reinstated so became a target for most of his shooting. My Battleship took a bit more damage from missiles as I had used my PDS to take out some nasty Fighter Bombers.
Turn five and six saw a very even spread of damage ( and a few bad rolls for shooting! ) but my Battlecruiser finally went after failing to get it’s shields back up again.
Turn seven saw my Battleships shields fail to come back up, and it finally died, but so did his Battleship, at the end of the turn I had an almost untouched Light Cruiser chasing a badly damaged Frigate so we called it a night, and I walked away with a minor victory…
It was a fun game, very close and it had some real nail biting moments, like the timing of his attack on my Battleship with his Fighter Bombers, it worked out perfect for him, I had to use my PDS on them or risk being ripped apart by the damage that they could do.
Later in the turn he hit me with a few missiles which really hurt, but again he never got any critical hits… We only had one critical hit in the whole game!
I am hoping to get another game with him soon at the club, but for now it is back to playtesting…
